Flávio Martins is a Ph.D. candidate working with the Web and Media Search lab (NOVA Search). His research interests include information retrieval, data mining, and machine learning with a focus on time-aware information retrieval and real-time social media search. As part of his dissertation work, he studies and builds techniques that leverage temporal signals from multiple sources on the Web to improve the ranking of search results.
He is co-advised by João Magalhães in the NOVA Laboratory for Computer Science and Informatics (NOVA LINCS) at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, and Jamie Callan in the Language Technologies Institute (LTI) at Carnegie Mellon University.
